Forensic NCM and 9/11

How Forensic Nested Causal Modelling separates the established attack, the later custody game, and the boundary of what the public evidence can support.

The program maps September 11 as more than one strategic enclosure: al-Qaeda’s established operational game; the distinct post-event game over records, classification, litigation, institutional defense, and public knowledge; and the long-lived legal, military, surveillance, and bodily structures produced afterward. It demonstrates how Forensic NCM can identify strategic structure without confusing downstream benefit with upstream authorship, then stops at the Final Frontier where physical, diplomatic, and archival evidence remains incomplete.

We're about to look at one of the most defining moments in modern history, but we're going to do

it completely differently. We're stepping away from the politics and the emotion, and instead,

we're going to use a fiercely objective, groundbreaking analytical framework called

Forensic NCM to literally map out the architecture of September 11.

It all starts with a really profound question. How does a single date become a quarter-century

long institution? I mean, the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 ended on that very day,

right? But the systems, the structures, and the rules they created, those definitely did not.

It's kind of fascinating when you think about it, how a finite event just morphs into this

permanent fixture that impacts almost every part of our modern lives. Here's our roadmap for this

explainer. One, the event that never ended. Two, enter Forensic NCM. Three, the operational game.

Four, the post-event custody game. Five, a new outer enclosure. And six, the Final Frontier.

Section one, the event that never ended. A date becomes an institution.

So September 11 started as this horrific morning. Four hijacked aircraft, the tragic loss of 2,977

victims. But almost immediately, the very name 9/11 expanded exponentially. It became this massive

blank check for war. It became a justification for sweeping secrecy, and it literally birthed

an entire federal department, the DHS. What started as an event transformed into a permanent

political tent that's now spanned a quarter of a century. Section two, enter Forensic NCM,

mapping suspected games in real life. Now, to analyze a historical expansion this massive,

without falling into, you know, a blind cheerleading or just baseless conspiracy theories,

we need a fiercely neutral tool. That brings us to the work of Sid J.A. Hubbard. Volume six of his

text formally establishes a discipline called Nested Causal Modelling, or NCM. Basically,

it's a way to understand how systems and actions are literally nested inside of one another.

Here's the core of it. Forensic NCM is the practice of locating a suspected game theory game

inside real enclosures, following its projections, and stopping exactly where the evidence stops.

The really crucial point here is that this allows us to map strategic behavior and

institutional responses without needing to know every single actor's identity up front.

We can just look at a pattern in reality, recognize that a game is being played,

complete with strategies, information gaps, and payoffs, and map its boundaries based purely on

the evidence left behind. Forensic NCM uses a three-part address system to map reality. Think

of it like nested boxes. It always follows this structure. First, you have the outer conditions

that enclose the event, then the actual event itself right in the middle, and finally,

the physical or informational products that the event encloses downstream.

Section three, the operational game, enclosing the attack. Let's take that exact analytical lens and

point it directly at 9/11. When we set up the NCM address for that day, it goes like this.

The attacks are enclosed by prior conditions, specifically U.S.-Saudi intelligence relations

and existing aviation protocols. In the center is the event itself, and downstream, that event

encloses its direct products, the physical destruction, the victims, the dust, and the

surviving records. If we look right at the center of that address, al-Qaeda's operational game is

historically established. They developed a strategy, selected targets, recruited and trained

participants, moved money, and tested aviation security. Ultimately, they successfully executed

a coordinated attack by exploiting an existing aviation enclosure. You see, that prior aviation

system simply didn't anticipate passenger aircraft being used as guided weapons. It treated hijackings

as hostage negotiations. The attackers recognized that specific rule set, and they used it to their

absolute devastating advantage. Section four, the post-event custody game, managing the evidence.

But here is where things get really interesting. Immediately following the event, the rules of the

game shifted entirely. There's a stark separation between the tragic operational game of the attack

itself and the post-event custody game. Right after the attacks, agencies suddenly realize

their massive exposure. We start seeing litigation holds, immediate document classification,

institutional defense, and shifting public access. Forensic NCM highlights that this institutional

self-protection is a completely different game from the attack itself. It has entirely different

players, different moves, and completely different payoffs. And that leads us to the ultimate

realization in Forensic NCM. Benefit downstream does not establish causal authorship upstream.

Just because intelligence agencies or defense contractors benefited from 9/11 downstream,

through massively increased budgets and hugely expanded authority, it absolutely does not mean

they orchestrated the attacks upstream. A panicked emergency institution can absolutely reproduce the

conditions that sustain its new authority without ever having to invent the underlying threat in the

first place. Section 5. A new outer enclosure. 9/11 as the enclosing condition. Once those immediate

attacks ended, the map actually turned inside out. The event itself became the outer enclosure,

projecting massive new conditions inward on society. We're talking about the 2001 legal

authorization for war, the creation of DHS, radically expanded surveillance, and the military

enclosures of the post-9/11 wars and Guantanamo. There's even a bodily enclosure. The WTC dust

disease is still living inside the bodies of first responders today. The perpetrators caused the event,

sure, but they did not write every statute, appropriate every dollar, or invade every

country that followed. The United States and its partners constructed this massive 25-year response.

Just watch how this scales over time. What began as a one-day structural collapse,

rapidly solidified into a dynamic equilibrium. Within a single week, laws were passed that are

still actively enclosing us today. Fast-forward 25 years, and this one event has become a permanent

architecture of governance, a massive surveillance apparatus, and tragically, a source of chronic

physical illness for over 130,000 people in the WTC health program. Section 6. The Final Frontier.

The Boundary of Authority. Every map, no matter how incredibly vast,

has to eventually end. And in NCM, this is called the Final Frontier. It's not a physical wall,

but a deterministic boundary of evidence. It's the absolute edge where an account must stop claiming

authority because the available evidence stops. The Final Frontier defends reality from official

accounts that overstep their bounds, while at the exact same time preventing conspiracy

theories from rushing in and filling the void of the unknown with false certainty.

When we map 9/11 using this framework, our map must lawfully halt at some very specific boundaries.

We have undisclosed national security intelligence records. We have unadjudicated

Saudi civil evidence and diplomacy. We have incomplete forensic reproductions of the exact

structural collapse mechanisms. We just have to honestly acknowledge that some physical,

diplomatic, and archival questions simply remain beyond our current public authority.

We literally cannot pretend to know what we cannot see. So, as we wrap up this explainer,

I want to leave you with a final, provocative thought. Can we accept the boundary of the unknown

without filling it with false certainty? It is actually honorable to leave the frontier

of human knowledge blank until real, concrete evidence arrives. By doing that, we keep the

victims human, rather than allowing their memories to be hijacked as some sort of renewable

authorization for political or military actions they never chose.
